In the "good old days" this was a Studebaker dealership garage. Of course Studebaker stopped building cars in the mid-1960's! The oldest reference I've found to Studebaker being sold here is a newspaper ad from 1941. If that's when they started selling Studebakers here it wasn't especially good timing because almost all new car production in the U.S.A. ended in early 1942 and didn't resume until 1946 because of WWII.

This sandstone building was built in 1934 by Tom Cook, Guy Sykes and Jim Lamport when the business moved from the old 1905 Seligman Garage on Railroad Avenue after Route 66 was realigned to follow Chino Avenue.

After the Studebaker years the business continued as the Seligman Garage and Standard/Chevron Oil Gas Station. For many years there was a large canopy over the pump island out front that was torn down in the 1990's.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
