The Black Cat has been around since the early 1900's, starting out as Jolly's Black Cat Cafe in a building on Railroad Avenue over by the train tracks. It moved to Chino Ave in 1935 when Route 66 was realigned. That spot was right in front of the current location and lasted until the widening of Route 66 required another move. So they built the current building right behind the old one. Over the years it has been known as the Black Cat Buffet and then the Black Cat Bar as well as Jolly's Cafe. It became a bar after prohibition ended in the mid-1930's.

A mural on the patio wall features the Seligman Harvey House, a train and three lovely Harvey Girls! The covered patio provides a shelter from the weather. The building is included in the National Register of Historic Places: Seligman Historic District listing as well as being on the walking tour.

xFrom the Black Cat parking lot you can spot a couple more old buildings, this one is the 1903 Post Office located directly behind the Pitts and Washington Store.

xThe other older building is the Seligman Grocery, located across the street just north of the Black Cat parking lot.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
