The Copper Cart Restaurant opened in 1952, but after over 60 years the restaurant closed. In 2015 the building and its iconic sign were still there on the corner of Route 66 and Main Street, but both were being used by the Route 66 Motoporium Gift shop when we went by in 2019. It is right next to Seligman Sundries and across the street from the Black Cat Saloon.

In its heyday the restaurant offered charcoal broiled steaks, sea food and Mexican food. It also featured a gift shop where you could by souvenirs.

xThe large Copper Cart sign is lit with both neon and incandescent lights. The name is in neon and the looped arrow uses 178 incandescent bulbs (on each side, if my count is right). The town Gazebo is just behind the little SUV on the right in this photo. The sign has changed a little since the restaurant closed. The sign board below the arrow has been changed to the same color as the background of the Copper Cart part and now says "Route 66 Motoporium", the name of the business occupying the building.

The Copper Cart building is included in the National Register of Historic Places: Seligman Historic District and is also on the Seligman Walking Tour.

The town Gazebo stands just beyond the afternoon shadow from the Copper Cart sign. There is a historic Marker by the gazebo commemorating the Beale Wagon Road.

THE COPPER CART RESTAURANT
in Seligman, Arizona

This is a delightful spot to stop for a meal when you are driving along U.S. Highway 66. With food comparable to that found in fine city eating places and with its clean and attractively decorated cafe and dining room, you'll want to make it a point to stop here for a meal.

NOTE: This mid-60s postcard shows how well the sign had help up over the years. Notice there's no address or phone number on the postcard.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
