This building was built in 1903 by J.A. Pitts and from then until 1926 it was a general store called Pitts & Washington. After being sold it was Central Commercial from 1926 to 1965.

A 1938 ad for Central Commercial said "We Have Everything For The Cowboys And Ranchers". A 1965 article about the store closing said they had carried meats, groceries, clothing, hardware, hay and grain. At the time it was one of two general stores in town, so its closing was a significant loss to the community.

A large canopy over the sidewalk in front had to be removed when the road was widened in the mid-60's. A faded Variety Store sign and Flag Mural can be seen on the side of the building. The sign over the small door at the rear corner says Seligman Sundries.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
