By the spring of 2019 this vintage gas station and sign had been torn down. A small sign over the door in this 2012 photo indicated that this old Gulf Station was once used by Route 66 Motors. I'd guess that the station and sign date to the 1950s.

x The Gulf sign has seen better days, but is still readable from one side with just fragments of a couple letters still clinging to their place on the other side as seen in this photo. The face of this sign appears to be made of some kind of heavy duty screen of expanded metal to which the letters were fastened. I'm guessing that's to reduced the likelihood of wind damage. How well do you think that worked?

xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
