Rattlesnakes Sign

East < GO > West

This Rattlesnakes sign is from E. Mike Allred's Rattlesnake Ranch in Lela. After the Rattlesnake Ranch closed in the 1960s the sign was eventually saved by preservationists. But it was blown down in 2007 only to be rescued again and brought to McLean. It is now located on the east end of town on First Street between Wilson and Donley St.

The sign stood much taller in it's original location, this is really just the top part. When it stood in Lela the words "Exit Now" were displayed several feet below this part. In Lela the sign was tall enough to attract drivers on I-40.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
