The Adkinson-Baker Tire Company building looks very much like it did when it was built in 1939. They sold Texaco gas and the building has typical architectural features shared with other Texaco station of the period such as the Art Moderne style curved corners on the canopy.

Adkinson-Baker sold the building in 1945 after which it became the T. A. Bippus Service Station. It was being used as an oil change shop when we went by in 2012.

xThe station featured a single row of incandescent lights and a single band of neon lights outlining the canopy as show here. It is part of the U.S. Route 66-Sixth Street Historic District that is on the National Register of Historic Places.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
