Saratoga Motor Hotel / America's Value Inn

The former Saratoga Motor Hotel opened in July of 1959. James B. Gray built, owned and operated the motel until 1967. The 85-unit motel advertised free TV and continuous hi-fi music. It eventually grew to 124/5 rooms with the addition of a large two story building behind the original motel.

At some point after the mid-90s it became the America's Value Inn. The rooms faced an central courtyard with parking. The motel was closed and vacant when it was destroyed by fire in early 2020. It is located on E 11th St. (Route 66) just west of Mingo Valley Expressway on the north side.

This was a pretty impressive sign back in the heyday of the Saratoga when it proclaimed "Restaurant, Pool, Free TV, Family rates". It's not quite so impressive anymore. When this was first the America's Value Inn they used the same sign, but just changed the name. When we snapped this photo in 2016 the name portion of the sign was missing. What came next was replacing everything above the $26.95 sign can with a huge new sign can for the name which was still in place in 2019.

The office, coffee shop and restaurant were located in the building out front. The pool used to be on the far right in this photo.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
