The Western Inn started as the Flamingo Motel with 36 units. It looks like it also had a swimming pool. According to an old matchbook the Flaming was one of a chain of motels sharing the same name in Tulsa,OK, Ft. Worth and Ft. Smith, AR, and Kansas City, KS. The motel has been known as the Western Inn at least since the early 1990s.

There is a large mural/sign on the east side of the building that features a big Route 66 shield.

The original sign blew down in a storm in the late 1980s and was replaced by this version. The sign advertises the "Best Rates in Town", I guess that would be the "Daily & Weekly Rates", which often indicate a property aimed more at the locals than at tourist.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
