Western Inn
5915 E. 11th St., Tulsa, OK
Phone:
The Western Inn started as the Flamingo Motel with 36 units. It looks
like it also had a swimming pool. According to an old matchbook the Flaming
was one of a chain of motels sharing the same name in Tulsa,OK, Ft. Worth
and Ft. Smith, AR, and Kansas City, KS. The motel has been known as the
Western Inn at least since the early 1990s.
There
is a large mural/sign on the east side of the building that features
a big Route 66 shield.
The
original sign blew down in a storm in the late 1980s and was replaced
by this version. The sign advertises the "Best Rates in Town",
I guess that would be the "Daily & Weekly Rates", which
often indicate a property aimed more at the locals than at tourist.
