East < GO > West

The Timber Creek Bridge was built in 1928 and it is a twin to the 1926 Pryor Creek Bridge in Chelsea. It is located east of Sayre between I-40 crossover and I-40, exit 26.

GPS: 35.344565, -99.580362

The bridge uses a Pratt Through Truss design with a total length of 99 feet. That's just a few feet longer than the longest span, that said there is only one span. The bridge is from the mid-20s and as such the deck is only 18 feet wide.

These narrow bridges mean meeting a truck or motor home on them might be cause for caution, especially if you are driving an RV or pulling a camper trailer. Two 8.5 foot wide vehicles equals 17 feet, on an 18 foot wide bridge that only leaves a few inches of space between each of them and the sides of the bridge structure ... mirrors ... what mirrors. The good news is that there is 15 feet of vertical clearance.
Vertical clearance above deck: 15.3 ft.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
