The contract to build the 1925 Magnolia Station was awarded in August of 1925 and it was up and running soon after. George Stovall, who later owned three local theaters including the now renovated Stovall Theater on East Main, was the original operator of the Magnolia station.

James Winget, the local Magnolia distributor, bought Stovall out in 1935 and ran the station until 1959. By then this was a Mobil station and Winget took the brand with him to his new Winget Mobil on south 4th street. The 1925 station building then became an electric motor repair shop.

xThere is a garage section on the south end of the original station but I suspect that was a later addition.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
