Sadly the old SunTide Inn was demolished in November of 2017 to make room for an office building. As of spring 2023 it seems to still be a vacant lot.

A soaring canopy welcomed weary travelers to the Suntide Inn. The motel sat on what was Route 66 and is now the south service road for the 39th Street Expressway.

Before the Suntide was built this was the site of "The Major Court" a 43 room motor court style motel, both motels were built and owned by Lyle Overman. After the Suntide was built in 1960 what was left of the Major Court sat on the east side of the new building. Apparently some of the Major Court units were torn down t make room for the Suntide. Together the combined motels offered 75 rooms. The Overman's sold the property in 1966.

A postcard described the Suntide as having "year round" air conditioning and television. The SunTide Inn was dedicated by Miss Oklahoma in August of 1960. It was sold to the state in 1976 and became the Kate Barnard Community Corrections Center correctional facility. In 2015 the state put it up for sale.

x The restaurant building sat on the west side of the courtyard and featured a sort of saw-tooth arrangement of windows along the front of the dining room.

x The edge of a small patio next to the restaurant mimicked the saw-tooth pattern found on the front of the building. A swimming pool and playground once occupied much of the grassy courtyard seen here.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
