East < GO > West

The Tower Courts, later known as the Tower Motel is behind a chain link fence, but you can still see the east building nearest the street fairly well. I'm not sure how many guest rooms there were in total, but the second one back from the front in this photo is number 28. Each room appears to have had a garage for the guest's car.

x The "Tower Courts" name is still visible on the back wall of the east wing. It's a fairly large U shaped complex that looks like it might have had a series of additions over the years.

x The large canopy spanned the entrance driveway sheltering guests from whatever the weather was when they checked in. A pre-1951 postcard shows the building with a lower 1/3 of stone and the upper section with what looks like lap siding. So the brick veneer probably was added when the new office and canopy were built.

NOTE: By the time this postcard was published the name had changed from "Courts" to "Motel" and air conditioning was mentioned. There was still no mention of room phones, TV. Not mentioning TV when A/C was mentioned seems odd.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
