Lyle and Ruby Overman built the now closed Carlyle Court in 1943 with 6 - 3 unit buildings and 1 - 4 unit building plus an office/manager-quarters building. Each of the three unit buildings stood at about a 45 degree angle to the street with the 4 unit building spanning the back of the property between the 3 unit buildings. A "U" shaped driveway connected all the units and left space in the middle for a courtyard and office building. The guest rooms featured carpeted floors and tiled bathrooms. Air conditioning and a swimming pool were added by the 1950s.

Allen and Jo Ann Simpson bought the motel in 1963 and operated it until the early 1990s. By 2009 the motel had been mentioned as typical in an article about Oklahoma's most endangered historic places.

x The sign in these photos replaced a wonderful neon sign built by Superior Neon that had been around since 1958. Unfortunately in January of 2013 the old sign was apparently sold off in pieces. The motel had been converted to other business uses when we went by in 2017.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
