This Bristow Texaco Service Station on the corner of 4th Ave.& Elm Street was built about 1923 on what was then a dirt road known as Highway 7. In 1926 it became Route 66 and the road was paved in 1929. It had two garage bays on the west side, the office, on the east side and at one time had an canopy over the gas pumps.

It was pretty much in original condition when it was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1995. It has been significantly modified since then by filling in the garage doors and removing the drive canopy. In this photo the building was a Donut shop and awnings over the doors and windows had been added.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
