Buckaroo Motel
1315 W. Route 66, Tucumcari, NM
Phone: 505-461-1650
The Buckaroo Motel was built on the west side of Tucumcari in the early
1950s In the early 1960s it was operated by Mr. and Mrs. N. C. Jordan.
The motel appears to have grown over the years having started with ten
units and adding more as time went on. According to the 1959/60 AAA Tour
Book you could spend the night here for between $6.00 and 8.00, you could
rent a TV for a little more, by 1964 the room rates had gone up to $7.00
to 9.00..
This sign was installed later, the Buckaroo Motel lettering is lit with
neon, the yellowish section has incandescent lighting. It's hard to
see in this image but there is a 3D cowboy on a bucking bronco on the
redish round section above Buckaroo. The original sign was nice but
not nearly as eye catching as this one.
