East < GO > West

The Buckaroo Motel was built on the west side of Tucumcari in the early 1950s In the early 1960s it was operated by Mr. and Mrs. N. C. Jordan. The motel appears to have grown over the years having started with ten units and adding more as time went on. According to the 1959/60 AAA Tour Book you could spend the night here for between $6.00 and 8.00, you could rent a TV for a little more, by 1964 the room rates had gone up to $7.00 to 9.00..

x This sign was installed later, the Buckaroo Motel lettering is lit with neon, the yellowish section has incandescent lighting. It's hard to see in this image but there is a 3D cowboy on a bucking bronco on the redish round section above Buckaroo. The original sign was nice but not nearly as eye catching as this one.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
