Tucumcari Convention Center is home of the 1997 Monument "The Mother Road" by sculptor Tom Coffin. The sculpture kind of looks like a 1957 or 58 DeSoto tailfin and taillight. The Monument is a stylized tail fin reminiscent of the flamboyantly tail-finned cars of the 50's and 60's. The convention center is also home to a Route 66 Museum.

Near the Tail Fin sculpture stands a historic marker commemorating Yetta Kohn, a local matriarch, postmistress, banker, business woman and cattle rancher.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
