The 1951 Western Motel is closed due to a fire. Like many motels along Route 66 this one was made up of several buildings. In this case two buildings are gone except for the foundation slabs. Mr. & Mrs. Rudy Babins moved to Santa Rosa in 1951 and then built this motel. The Babins apparently moved away in the early 1960s, but their daughter was listed as the owner or partial owner in the 1970s. In 1970 Mr. and Mrs. Hal Salvage partnered with the Babin's daughter, Dorothy Lowcher, but they left the business in 1975, making Lowcher the sole owner at the time.

x A kind of quirky cowboy hat sign marks the driveway entrance on Will Rogers Drive, which is also Route 66 in Santa Rosa.

x The more modern sign for the motel. The signage at the Western changed a lot over the years.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
