La Loma Motel has been owned & operated by the Campos family since 1949. It formerly was the La Loma Lodge, a name used in some advertising until at least 1986. The free standing sign at the left in this photo replaced an earlier version that was a simple "sign atop a post" style in front of a small freestanding motel office building.

The motel has apparently gone through some significant changes over the years, including the tearing down and replacing of the bank of rooms on the far right in this photo. The new rooms have a different roof style and are set back a little further on the site. There is also a small RV park adjacent to the motel now.

xThe freestanding sign and the La Loma Motel sign on the front of the office are both lit with Neon.

xIn 2012 the large freestanding sign in the parking lot advertised Clean comfortable rooms, kitchenettes, weekly rates, senior discount and Showtime (a cable channel). A second sign advertised Free wireless internet, queen beds, senior discount, and American Hospitality. These shine some light on how the business has changed for many of the vintage motels along the Mother Road, while kitchenettes were fairly common in some vintage motels, advertising weekly rates often means the business has or is moving away from focusing on nightly tourist type rentals.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
