Paul & May Danneville built the Lariat Lodge in 1957, besides the guest rooms, there was a cafe and a Texaco gas station. The cafe and gas station are long gone. The guest rooms originally featured steam heat, and televisions. The building has been significantly remodeled over the years with the gable roof and entrance canopy added.

xThe neon tubing on the "Motel" sign was in place when we went by in 2013. But it's missing on the "No Vacancy" part. The neon tubing must be far out from the sign board a ways because it cast quite a shadow. The "Lariat" part of the name is a simple backlit sign.

A fair number of these smaller Mom and Pop motels still operate as tourist motels while many others, if not most, now focus on a longer stay guest.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
