This tiny building on west College Street has been home to a barbershop since 1948. Milfred Mullen owned and operated the barbershop until he retired. His son Don continued barbering at the shop for a short time until 2011 when he started to consider his retirement and rented the barber shop to Grant Kendall., a young barber who moved from St. Louis to take advantage of the opportunity. He bought the property in 2014 and operates the shop as the Route 66 Barbershop. The Melinda Court motel is just across the street.

Mural for the Route 66 Barber Shop. The banner at the bottom says "Oldest Barber Shop in Springfield". This very cool mural appeared on the side of the barber shop sometime in the year between the two photos on this page, 2016 top, 2017 bottom.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
