This limestone building was built in 1902 by John Jackson. That was well before the road beside it was designated as Route 66 The building housed a general store on the ground floor and on the second floor it had living quarters for the owners as well as a large community room that served various groups and activities.

x A peek through one of the windows reveals the floor for the second story and the roof are completely gone. Just the walls are left and they surround the trees and brush that have taken up residence inside them.

x Vines of some sort cover a good portion of the walls. Jackson later built a wood frame building on the northeast corner of the intersection, there are no traces of that building left but it was used as a casket factory and an undertaking business.

Nailed to a telephone pole on the NE corner of this intersection is a small sign declaring Plano as a Green County Historic Site dating back to 1881. It also declares Plano a ghost town.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
