During Route 66's heyday, Halltown was known as The Antique Capitol of the U.S. This building was built in 1930 and was known as Cameron's Antiques beginning in the late 1950s. The upstairs has apartments and the main floor was the antique shop. Bob Cameron specialized in antique brass lamps and lighting fixtures. Cameron apparently did business here for forty years or so.

In the 1950s there were seven or more antique shops doing business in Halltown. Looking through ads in old newspapers it appears that there was a fairly rapid turn-over of operators of at least some of those shops

The building appeared to be vacant when we took this photo in 2016. It's a simple two story concrete block building with a gable roof and a full width parch on the main level and a full width balcony on the second floor.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
