This 1961 Imperial 400 Motel is now the Imperial 400 Motor Inn with 32 rooms and is located at the intersection of Broadway and D Streets. The Imperial 400 Motel chain of hotels started in 1959 and used "Aye, royal accommodations at thrifty rates" as their slogan. The "Gull-Winged" styled roof over the lobby and managers apartments makes any of these buildings that remain unmodified easily identifiable as an old Imperial 400 motel. The very distinctive original design concept was created by California architects Palmer & Krisel in 1959. The chain eventually grew to over 100 motel, some of which can be seen along Route 66.
