The Burger Hut was built in 1957 by Lee McCary and was later changed to Irene's Burger Hut in honor of his wife, Irene. In the 1960s the name was changed to Irene's Drive-In and by 2007 was back to being named the Burger Hut. By 2008 the restaurant had stood here for over 50 years and had only had 3 owners. In April 2013 then owner, Ana Johnson reopened the restaurant after it had been closed for about 3 months. The place was seriously damaged in a 2014 windstorm when the roof was blown off. It closed after that with hopes of someday reopening. Reconstruction started in 2016 and apparently continued into 2018.

It is located at the intersection of Broadway & D Street.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
