I haven't been able to track down a build date for this motel, but I'm guessing it was built in the late 1930s or early 1940s based on the mild streamline moderne (rounded corners) design of what appears to be the original building nearest the corner. Both of the gable roof sections and the whole west wing look like later additions.

A 1961 "for sale" ad states there were 15 rooms plus a managers apartment. Those rooms featured wall to wall carpeting, TVs, tile showers and some had kitchenettes. It also said the place had been owned by the same person for 11 years, so that dates it back to at least 1950.

By sometime before 2008 the name Topper Motel include this motel and two more on the same block, the old El Carlos and the old Casa Loma.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
