The Desert Sun Motel is located at 1000 E. 3rd Street which is westbound Route 66 in Winslow. It dates back to the 1953, and is one of several vintage motels still standing in the city. The sign shown here is very different from the original sign. In particular, the large arrow was a later addition. The swimming pool mentioned in the highlights below has been filled in or removed and there doesn't seem to be a playground either, but there may be a picnic table or two where the playground and pool were. The restaurant mentioned in the highlights is the Falcon Restaurant

x The sign was a bit weathered and worn when we went through Winslow in 2009 and 2015. Be nice to see this sign restored

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
