The mid-1960's Astro Motel has a fairly unusual folded plate style roof over the office and lobby area. The motel suffered a long delay during construction and was sold tom Motel 6 about a year after opening. In 2015 the motel was operating as the Motel 10. Like so many other vintage motels on the Mother Road the swimming pool has been removed. There is still an Astro Motel in Pasadena California.

In kind of an interesting sidelight late in 1967 KINO Radio 1230 AM was granted permission by the FCC to move their studio from the Town House Motel to the Astro Motel. I have no idea how long they stayed at that location, but they are still on the air.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
