According to the National Register of Historical Places the Cottage Hotel is one of the oldest surviving commercial buildings in town. It was built in the 1910 to 1920 period a rooming house making it The rooming house guest list probably leaned heavily toward cowboys and railroad workers.

Later as it struggled to survive in the 1940's it apparently also served as what we'd call a "birthing center" today, a place for expectant moms to bring children into the world.

After numerous owners over the years the hotel closed in the late 1940's. After years of decline the building was donated to the Seligman Historical Society in 1986.

The Cottage Hotel is located one block north of Chino (Route 66) at the NW corner of First Street & Schoney Avenue, turn north on the west side of the Supai Motel to get there..

xThe sign above the door has been painted over, but the Cottage Hotel name can still be read if you look carefully. Just inside the front door there was a reception desk on one side and a lobby area on the other. A central hall with guest rooms on both sides ran the length of the building to the back door. The hotel had two shared restrooms one off the central hall and one accessed from outside through a door on the west side of the building.

The building was all boarded up when we were there in 2015, but you can still tell where the room windows were by the boards. It is owned by the historical society, and is on the National Register of Historic Places.
