Ortegs'a Indian City was located in a large geodesic dome here when I-40 came through. Now they have a large modern building. two story building with a restaurant and sell typical tourist goods. The dome style store appears to have been just like the one at Lupton and Meteor City.

The store is on the NE corner of I-40 exit 351. Chee's Indian Store is on the NW corner of this intersection. The original Route 66 was paved over at this point when I-40 was built.

NOTE: This postcard is dated 1972 and shows the old geodesic dome style building that housed Indian City at the time.

The address on the postcard is Houck and it looks like that's actually accurate, but the business is located at the Allentown Road exit (351) on I-40. The little community of Allentown itself is located just north of the exit.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
