In the late 1950s the former 24 hour Ranch House Cafe was owned by the McCasland family who sold it to Roman Homen in 1960. It later became the Blessed Mary Restaurant, but it didn't appear to be open when we took this photo in 2015. Some time after that it became the Cactus Ranch restaurant and in 2019 it was the 66 Cactus Ranch Restaurant.

The Ranch House claimed to have the "Best Coffee in Texas". As the Blessed Mary Cafe there was a "Pay what you can" policy, no stated prices and apparently no cash register.

The building was remodeled at some point replacing a flat roof with the gable roof shown here.

An early matchbook cover advertised the restaurant as the "Ranch House Cafe" with "Good Meals and Quick Service" and also advertised the L. A. Motel across the street. The matchbook listed the restaurant phone as simply 2462.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
