East < GO > West

On the west edge of Groom you come to the former 1960s L. A. Motel, at one time owned and operated by T. L. & Merlyn Evans. It is located on the north side of the road.

It was used in the 1992 movie "Leap of Faith" starring Steve Martin after being remodeled to look more like the Golden Spread Motel on the other end of town. As part of the remodeling, the second story was added above the office, as was the canopy that also served as a deck above the office entrance. All that because the other motel wasn't available for the movie shoot. A large buttress that held a sign on the front of the office was added for the movie and has since been removed. The motel is across the road from the Ranch House Restaurant.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
