Longhorn Trading Post & The Bug Ranch

I-40 Exit 96, Conway, TX
Phone: x

East < GO > West

The Bug Ranch features 5 VW Beetles buried nose first, the line up of the spray-painted Volkswagen Beetles planted by the side of the road didn't save the business, but still draws visitors.

x OK, so the VW Beetles are the big draw here, but tucked away on the other side of the building between the Beetles and the closed Longhorn Trading post is this lonely old car doing it's best to keep up with the rest of the crowd. This building used to have a sign that read "Bug Ranch U.S.A."

x Thomas and Lula Mae Crutchfield opened the trading post in 1967, and closed it in 2005. They created the Bug Ranch in 2002 to help draw visitors off I-40. I don't know how well that worked when the trading post was open, but the Bug Ranch seems to draw a fair number of Route 66 roadies today.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
