When we snapped this photo in 2012 Wild Bills Fill'n Station is housed in the 1952 Taylor's Texaco Station. It was built using the standard Texaco white enameled steel and red stripe design originated in 1937. There were three pumps just under the front edge of the canopy.

A 2/3 page newspaper announced that the station would hold a grand opening on February 2nd, 1952 during which they would give away a coupon for a free lubrication job with every 10 gallon gas purchased that day.

They also gave out S & H Green Stamps with every purchase, and double stamps on Wednesday. Gene Taylor's business had been located down the street at Western Avenue before opening here. C. G Berger was the general contractor on this building.

It is part of the U.S. Route 66-Sixth Street Historic District that is on the National Register of Historic Places Text

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
