Route 66 West Gateway

4261 Southwest Blvd, Tulsa, OK
Phone:

East < GO > West

The Route 66 West Gateway on Southwest Boulevard in Tulsa stands in front of the old Crystal City Shopping Center and is accompanied by several very cool pieces of art.

Like the east Gateway this one comes in two pieces, one on ech side of the road. Southwest Boulevard runs right next the railroad tracks here, as the train in the background shows.

In 2016 a new sculpture, "Floating Hanger" was install next to the Route 66 West Gateway. The Reno artist, Eileen Gay, created the mosaic sculpture which depict various stages of transportation history in Tulsa.

Among other local highlights the Frisco locomotive 4500 is featured in this outstanding mosaic sculpture.

Shown across from the Frisco locomotive in this wonderful work of art is an oil well and pump.

A series of historic markers stand next to the sculpture. This one has a map and legend.

Individual Markers highlight local landmarks.

The Route 66 Gateway is located at the Crystal City Shopping Mall.

xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
