Gateway Inn

This early 1950s motel was formerly the Town & Country Motor Hotel and Restaurant. At some point it became the Gateway Motor Inn. The restaurant is closed and the swimming pool has disappeared. The building is signed as the Gateway Motor Inn, but it looks like it is mostly long term apartment rentals.

Note: There's a pretty big difference is the message delivered by these two postcards. The first seems to be aimed at the family travelers and the second more at the business traveler. That might be because the I-44 freeway had opened and more families were using the freeway and zipped right past the place.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
