Ritz Theater

912 W. Britton Rd., OKC, OK

The 586 seat Ritz Theatre originally opened in this location in the 1940s or 1950s having relocated from a smaller 280 seat building across the street at 923 Britton Rd which went on to become a roller rink before being reopened as the Britton Theater and then on to other uses. Britton Rd was part of the original 1931 Route 66 relignment known as the "Beltline". The photo above was taken in 2017.

x This 2012 photo shows the sign on the side of the building had advertised a thrift store art one time.

x I would love to see this neat old sign lit up again, but that might take some doing. A later photo I saw seems to show the "I" missing.

x In 2012 the sign and most of the front of the building was hidden behind scaffolding during the restoration effort. This photo shows that the marquee has been removed.

x This 2011 photo shows the marquee that has since been removed.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
