This is a replica of the original 1900's Miami Gateway sign that stood
on Central at C Street near the railroad station. That sign was lost to
history in the 1930s. Well times change things and one of those changes
is how people travel. The train lost the favor of travelers and the automobile
picked up the slack, that led the new sign being erected across Main Street.
It is just north of the intersection of Main Street and Hwy 10 where the
1926 alignment of the Main Street of America goes south to the Sidewalk
Highway and the 1937 re-alignment heads west towards the Riviera
Courts.
The
arch and nearby sign were dedicated in October of 2012.
