East < GO > West

C. M. Brake built this building to house his furniture store in 1910 and operated it until he passed away in 1959. When we went by in 2019 a sign for the "Geary Star" was above the papered over windows on the east part of the building. The Star is a weekly paper that began publishing in 1930. The sign above the windows on the west half of the facade was for the Country Cousins which appeared to have closed. The two businesses apparently shared the main entry door.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
