Pioneer Jail

Foss Park, Broadway (SH44) at 2nd, Foss, OK

In 2015 the pioneer jail was located at Broadway and Adams (4th), near the "Welcome to Foss, Oklahoma" sign. But it apparently moves around a bit. In 2013 it was located just north of the post office on Broadway (44) at 2nd street. It's a small town, if the jail has moved again ask anyone you see where it is.
x It's hard to imagine today, but this is what often passed for a jail in the pioneer days in western USA states. This one being fairly spacious, and tall enough to stand up in was furnished with four folding steel "bunks". Not a lot of room for pacing back and forth while awaiting justice, especially if your cellmates are sleeping.

xThe little jail carries a tag saying it was built by the Pauly Jail Building Co. of St. Louis, MO. These guys started building jails in 1856 and they are still in the jail equipment building business today.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
