This church was organized in 1900 and built the original part of this
building in 1902. The stone used to build it came from a local quarry.
There was a bell tower above an entrance where the stone panel between
the windows and the little tree in this photo, but it was dismantled and
the steel went to the war effort in WWII.
The historic marker at School
House Hill Park has an illustration of the church from the early
days when the bell tower was still in place. The church building is
west of Broadway (SH44) on Main St.

You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane
road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned
lanes are still there.
