The original Post Headquarters and Officer Quarters on this spot were built in 1876 of wood. It was replaced by this brick and concrete building in the late 1930s. That's when the headquarters was relocated to another building and this building became the Adjutant Office and Officer's quarters until 1949 when the post was closed.

The back of the building was a little distressed when we were there in 2017

xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
