This 1876 building was the fort Commanders Quarters. It had been remodeled with a brick and stucco exterior in 1936. The latest restoration was completed in 2007. Only four of the row of several officer housing buildings located just north of the visitor center still exist. (The visitor center building is one of them).

xThe 1891 "Victorian" style Officers Quarters was rehbiltated in two phases in 2008. Phase 1 included restoring the roof, chimneys and the second floor cedar siding. Phase 2 saw the restoration of porches, masonary and more.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
