This Rock Island Caboose, number 17145, is sitting between a parking lot and a park at Choctaw & Wade in El Reno, It's fairly common along Route 66 to find a caboose or railroad engine on display in a park. That's understandable because railroads played such a huge part in the history and growth of many of these communities. The rail lines and Mother Road are very often side by side in the small towns of Route 66.

This spot on the Mother Road is turning into a cool little park. In 2017 there was a "Leave Your Lock" piece of public art where people could leave a padlock on an Oklahoma shaped screen.

The city installed this Route 66 monument in 2018. It makes a perfect spot for a photo op!

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
