East < GO > West

This station features Conoco's then signature "house-with-bays" style, resembling a cottage in white glazed brick exterior with red brick trim. The station was built in 1934 and in 1964 two more service bays were added in a hip roofed section, shown on the right in this photo. Over the years the station has used two different addresses at different times, Those addresses are 121 W. Wade and 301 South Choctaw but it was commonly simply referred to alas the Conoco at Wade and Choctaw.

x While there were a number of operators over the years, this was always a Conoco Station during it's gas pumping years. In these photos you can see several cowboy silhouettes painted on the garage door spaces, other than those images the building itself is shown in colors pretty close to the original Conoco color scheme. The garage doors have been replaced with frame walls and entry style doors.

x This photo shows the different sizes of the 3 sections of the building, the office closest to the us, the original service bay in the middle and the 1964 addition beyond that. The canopy was likely added at the same time as or later than the 1964 section. The vent panel in the gable was a signature of these Conoco stations when they were new. The building was added to the National Register or Historic Places in 2004.

xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
