The Jessamine Hotel was constructed in 1906-07. There was a large second section that appeared to be a later addition on the back of the building that has been removed at some point in time. Edy's Barber Shop occupied the front corner on the ground floor at some point. An outside staircase led to the boarded up door on the second floor at the far left in this photo.

While the building appears to have been built with cut stone walls it is really concrete blocks made to imitate the look of stone.

There was also another hotel "The Davenport" in town in 1908.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
