The former entrance to the cemetery is on Route 66 has been closed. The
new entrance is around the corner on M3490. I haven't found a founding
date for the cemetery, but it's probably reasonable to assume it was around
the time the town was founded in 1902 give or take a few years.
The
chapel was a WPA project that was built in 1939. It has only one room
which contains wooden benches and an altar. It is located in the center
of the Davenport Cemetery about one mile west of town on Route 66.

You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane
road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned
lanes are still there.
