Ray's Motel & Service Station
720 S. 8th St., Clifton, OK
Phone:
The former Ray's Motel features an art deco style. The guest rooms wrap
around the edge of the property in an L shape. In 1941 this was Miller's
Service Station, Miller was Ray's last name. For many years you could
get a nights rest here and fill your tank with Phillips 66 gas. The motel
seems to have more or less switched to renting efficiency apartments rather
than the tourist lodging business.
This photo shows the guest room wing on Opal Ave.. The address is on
8th street but the building faces Opal Ave. Between the shrubs and fences
you can't get a very good view of the guest room building courtyard.
This is a peek at the guest room wing where it faces 8th St. Ray's was
part of a preservation project during the 2007 International Route 66
Festival in Clifton during which the paint was scraped and the building
repainted.
