Neptune Park was constructed by the WPA in 1936 to serve travelers along Route 66. The tables were made of sandstone with mortar for pedestals and concrete slabs for table tops. In 2019 there was one table there with two benches, one broken. There is also another table with no benches.

In 1949 the Clinton Drive-in Theater opened on the south side of the park. The theater closed in the 1980s and there's nothing left of it. It was owned by the same company that owned the Redland Theater downtown Clinton.

xThe sign for the park is also made of sandstone and a wooden beam which hangs a sign (shaped like the state of Oklahoma) saying

"Neptune Park Est. 11-30-36".

The sign set back from the road a bit and is kind of obscured by the trees as you drive west, but easily seen heading east.

xThe original tables were had sandstone pedestals with concrete slabs for table and bench tops.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
