The Sand Creek Bridge was part of the 1926-1965 alignment of Route 66
just north of Bristow. The Warren Pony Truss bridge was built in 1935.
The bridge deck has been taken down since this 2017 photo. It wasn't a
really large bridge with a total length of 60 feet and a deck width of
just over 17 feet. We approached the bridge from the south where a short
section of the 1926 alignment is still in use along the west side of the
newer alignment.
The
trusses and deck were still in place in 2017 but the bridge was blocked.
The newer road is visible on the left in this photo.

About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more

You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane
road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned
lanes are still there.
